Part Shade to Shade Garden Kit
This customizable kit comes with 4 species and a total of 8 plants. Categorizing the many types of shade is notoriously difficult. The species recommended in this kit can handle many of them, from the bright, dappled shade of trees to the dark shade cast by buildings. No plant can survive in all day dark, however, so it is recommended that these plants get at least 3-4 hours of sun per day. Flowering will be diminished in some cases in deep shade.
For gardens with dry soil, please select Thimbleweed over Cardinal Flower. Otherwise, these plants are adaptable to a wide variety of soil and moisture conditions.
This kit covers an estimated 9-13 square feet of garden space. Container gardens should be planted slightly more densely.
These kits are designed to either be planted individually or to be treated as modular building blocks — multiple kits can be repeated to create a cohesive, meadow-like planting that scales to fit your space.
